DJ Armin van Buuren launched his latest track, Pulstar, this week. Based on the iconic song by Vangelis from 1976. Armin’s latest track plays a key role in the film Beyond: Ode to the Earth, which will premiere on Friday 4 October in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.
In his radio show, a State of Trance, Armin van Buuren and André Kuipers talk about this special collaboration. You can listen to the entire episode here.

Ode to Vangelis

During his space mission, André listened to Armin’s music during his daily workouts. Armin made a special version of his song “communication” especially for André. They not only share a passion for space, but are also both big fans of the famous Greek composer and producer Vangelis.
Kuipers was in contact with Vangelis from space. ‘While Vangelis was playing the piano live, I showed him the Earth via my webcam,’ says Kuipers about his special moment with the Greek composer. ‘It was magical, and a special friendship developed after that.’ Together they visited Vangelis in Paris – just before his death.

Pulstar

Armin was given the opportunity to give his own twist to Vangelis’ classic. ‘I wanted to do something that paid tribute to the original, but also added something of my own. The film contains such breathtaking images that I really did my best to create something special with Pulstar.’
Pulstar accompanies one of the most impressive scenes in the film, in which images of the Earth are given a psychedelic effect by a long exposure time. This scene, filmed by NASA astronaut Don Petit, comes to life through the rousing beats and recognizable melodies of Armin’s music.
Armin van Buurens’ Pulstar – with images – can be seen and heard here.
The premiere of Beyond: Ode to the Earth is on Friday October 4th in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Want to be there? Buy your tickets here.
